Leo Wolpert was forced to win 7 rounds of heads-up matches against some of the world’s best players befort could arrive here at the final. The same was from John Duthie, the EPT Founder. Wolpert, a former pro player, he started in his early 20′s, decided to go back to school to study law. This summer he was in Nevada, for his internship, and Wolpert decided to give a shot at the $10,000 WSOP Heads-Up Championship.
Wolpert climbed tho the last eight, where he faced (and won) a tough opponent, Dustin “Neverwin” Woolf. Then, Wolpert won Jamin Stokes, the man finished Johnny Chan some rounds ago.
Yesterday in the finals, Wolpert found himself up against EPT Founder and Team PokerStars Pro, John Duthie. Duthie won the first match after 96 hands. It happened after rivered flush for Duthie, who was able to double up and then finish the short stacked Wolpert.
In the second match, Wolpert recovered of the against goal quite quickly. Duthie bet all his chips drawing dead on the 9th hand when he held top pair, top kicker against Wolpert’s set of sixes.
The final match would be a real marathon. Wolpert achieved an early lead and never let it go, after 191 hands of play (this was clearly the longest match of the round) John Duthie commited all his chips with top pair and was called by Wolpert’s two pair.
Congratulations to Leo Wolpert for his win and bracalet at the the 2009 WSOP Heads-Up Championship. Also congrats to John Duthie for his runner-up finish.
