EPT London: Aaron Gustavson defeats Eastgate for £850K

8 October 2009 No Comment

Aaron Gustavson was, in fact, such a candidate to claim it. Nobody doubted on that. Some months ago, he won a PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up for $135,000. Also, he had quite good success at the PokerStars WCOOP. He also won a tourney at the Borgata in Atlantic City. All these successes gave him the necessary credentials to win the EPT London of the European Poker Tour. But It wasn’t going to be easy with such big names around.

One of these names was the current World Champion and PokerStars player Peter Eastgate. And eventually, he was the one to face when only two were left.

Ups and downs, downs and up. And the final hand came.

Eastgate went for a raise to 350.000, and Gustavson reraised to 900.000. Eastgate instant all-ined and Gustavson quick called. Unfortunately for Eastgate his A♥9♦ was dominated by Gustavson’ A♠Q♦. The help didn’t came for the danish with the board of 3♠4♦6♥K♣J♥ and Gustavson was the new EPT London champion, and £850,000 richer.

“I know Peter is very aggressive, so I knew it was going to be tough,” Gustavson said. “I wanted it to be quick.”

And it was fairly quick. Eastgate was quite disappointed, but probably tomorrow he won’t, as he received such a cheque of £530,000 for his efforts.
